 The Colombo Fort Magistrate today ordered for prison sentence to General Sarath Fonseka until July 12th in regard to the Hycope financial procurement case. Today the case was brought for hearing, hence such verdict was given. |
| Sarath Fonseka was brought to the courts in a vehicle belonging to the Prison department today. The lawyer appearing on behalf of General Sarath Fonseka told the Magistrate that despite an earlier order for special security for Fonseka, the detained General was transported to Court today in a prison van and not in the special army vehicle. The Lawyer appearing for Sarath Fonseka appealed in courts that in future Sarath Fonseka should be permitted to travel by the military vehicle to attend the court proceedings, and the courts gave permission to the request. Meanwhile the Attorney appealed permission to bring food from home for Sarath Fonseka, and the courts granted permission for the request too . But the court rejected the request made by the Attorney for Sarath Fonseka to speak to his wife who is now in abroad, and requested to appeal in the High Court and obtain permission. |
