 According to reports, the recent statistics conducted establishes that the estate Tamil people residing in the Nuwara Eliya district are consuming two billion worth of liquor for a day. The estate employees are spending two billion and 20 lacks for consumption of liquor for a day. |
| According to the statistic conducted at the Liquor selling centers which function in the Nuwara Eliya district, with government permits have revealed such information. Other than this, the liquor shops which sell without government permits, also still function is according to reports. Repots furnish that more than thousand liquor selling centers without permits are operating in the State plantation sector. Most of the estate workers are addicted to liquor hence they are in poverty. The expenditure for consumption of liquor from the people living in the Nuwara Eliya district is more than the funds allocated by the government to the district development was stated.
