[ Sunday, 24 October 2010, 04:20.07 PM GMT +05:30 ] Reports states for the first time, an oppose was given to the new law which was introduced two days back by the Canadian government, to hamper Sri Lankan refugees entering their country. The ‘œTorranto News’ website which function as its base in Canada had shown it’’s oppose. The ‘œToronto News’ website pointed out the new law introduced by the Canadian government will benefit the government in obstructing the illegal or human smugglers intruding to the country, but the genuine refugees entering the country for some redress, will get affected by the law.

According to the new law, if a refugee is detained in prison for a period of one year, there are possibilities that the figures of refugees detained in prison will get increased, was quoted in the website. This will be the similar obstructions faced in Christmas Island, Australia was mentioned. After much pressure, the refugees will be able to appeal for refugee status but even though the expatriates are provided with refugee status, they will not be considered for permanent residency for a period of five years, which indicates in the new law.

A person who is approved for refugee status in Canada will not be able to return to his native country, is an action of violating human rights was further alleged by the website. The ceremony had been organized by Ms Maryse Limonar, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Vavuniya to distribute 400 hand tractors among the villagers in Mullattivu and Vavuniya Districts. A list of beneficiaries also had been prepared by the ICRC.


However amidst the resistance of the ICRC representatives, a group of MPs including Messrs Namal Rajapaksa, Manusha Nanayakkara, Saranatha Basnayake and Sri Ranga had distributed the tractors of their choice by force. Consequently Ms Maryse Limonar had walked to the rear of an ICRC vehicle and cried who couldn”t hide her feelings.

During the past period, the former tigers who had undergone rehabilitations will be released section by section. The government sector informs approximately 4460 persons were released, and out of them 304 female rebels also include. At the final stage of war between Liberation tigers and military, about 11,000 liberation tigers surrendered, but information stated, only 8000 persons are with the government.

But government did not furnish any details about the actual figures and also there is no information about the other rebels. In this situation it is informed that about 1000 persons, who had been involved in terrorism activities, will be given charge sheets, and will be produced in courts.

Most of the affected is due to smoking, consuming liquor, mental stress and habit of eating unhealthy food.
